Bilbao City Council puts out to tender the contract for the termination of the opening up of the Deusto canal

19/01/2017

The Official State Gazette has, today, published the Bilbao City Council call for tenders for the termination of the works for the opening up of the Deusto canal. The previous contract was anulled in October by the City Council due, in the Council’s opinion, to the previous consortium not complying with the terms of the contract.

The contract up for tender consists of the excavation necessary to open up the canal and the construction of the quaysides on both banks. The stretch to be excavated is 490 metres long by 75 metres wide with a depth of 10 metres. Approximately 360,000 cubic metres of earth will need to be evacuated.

The base budget for the contract is 13.5 million euros (VAT included) and the time limit is estimated at 12 months.

Tenders must be deposited by February 10th. Tendering companies will not supply their own plans for the works but will apply the plan already established which has been approved by the environmental authorities of the Basque Government.
